Ketamine is stereotypically thought of as an anesthesia medicine or even a drug for clubbing is now catching the attention of pain management specialists as a useful approach to hard-to-treat migraines and chronic pain.

When is it Chronic Pain and When is it Normal?

Chronic pain is much different than normal pain that everyone feels from time to time. People who suffer from chronic pain keep hurting for weeks, months, or even years after the injury which caused the pain to begin with. Doctors often define chronic pain as any pain which lasts for 3 to 6 months or longer.

At the neuroscience center, we know how chronic pain can have real effects on your day-to-day life and your mental health. But you and Dr. Best can work together to treat it.

The use of ketamine to treat chronic pain conditions was discussed at the American Academy of Pain Management annual meeting last year. During one of their research presentations, it was concluded that even a smaller dose of 25-milligram ketamine nasal spray can reduce the severity of migraines and sudden flares of severe pain much quicker and more effectively than traditional medicine.

What Can I Do to Treat It Now?

Dr. Best has seen several patients that have been told that their chronic pain isn’t treatable, and understands how depressing and discouraging that news can be. However, there is hope with the unique treatments given at our Neuroscience center: brain stimulation and ketamine treatments.

Dr. Best examines the root of your treatment’s resistance and has found that pain is often the result of weak connections between different parts of the brain. We have therefore developed a specialized brain stimulation treatment for pain with outstanding results. The treatment merges transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) with ketamine infusions, which jointly delivers superior pain relief.
